About the move

Q: Where are you moving?

A: I’m moving to the beautiful island of Curacao . Curacao is a n island of the Netherlands Antilles in the southern Caribbean Sea off the northwest coast of Venezuela . It was discovered in 1499 and settled by the Spanish in 1527. The Dutch gained control in 1634, although the British held the island during the Napoleonic Wars (1807-1815). Oil refining and tourism are the major industries.

Q: Where did you find this job opportunity?
A: I found this job on monster.ca. Yes, job boards really do work.

Q: Did you have a job interview?
A: I first did a conference call. A week later they flew to Toronto and we did an inperson interview. 2 weeks later I was given a job offer, but I didn't accept the position until I flew down to see the Island for myself. I spent 4 days on the island touring seeing as much of the island as I could.

Q: What will you be doing down there?
A: I got a job as an Online Marketing Specialist for an Online Gaming company. The Company is called VIP Services. It was founded in 1997 and has grown into an international operation with 150 employees in 3 countries. Licensed in both the UK and Netherlands Antilles , the group recently appeared on the “Power 25” list of the 25 most influential global online gaming operators; published by eGaming Review. I’m going to spend my free time on the beach sun tanning, getting my scuba diving license, and reading.

Q) When is your last day at Sears Canada Inc.?
A) My Last day is Friday March 18 th

Q) When do you move down?
A) I’m moving down on April 4 th

Q) Do you know where you’re going to live, did you find a place?
A) The company will have a place for me once I get there. Once I’m on the Island I will work with a real estate agent to find an apartment. The apartment will be fully furnished so all I’ll have to bring are clothes, books, and Dvd’s.

Q) Do you know anyone down there?
A) Nope, I’ll have to make friends once I’m down there.

Q) How long are you there for?
A) I have 2 months probation. Once I pass the probationary period, and decide I want to stay on the Island , I will be given a contract for 1 year. The one year contract is given for more for job security, but the job is there as long as I am. I can’t see myself living on the island more than 3 years….but anything is possible.

Q) What does your family think?
A) My Mother has set up a series of prayer syndicates across the country. She has been working with both grand mothers for efficiency. My Sister has worked with CIA, FBI and the Royal Mounted Police conducting background checks of all my co-workers. In all seriousness, my family is sad that I’m moving out of country but have been very supportive of my decision.
